Settings - Bar Code

Don Lawson -

On the Bar Code Menu, the settings you choose here will determine the type of bar code and data source to be encoded.  The bar code can then be added to your templates and then printed on your labels.  Later, if you change the settings for a bar code here, all of the templates that have that bar code will use the new settings.

Buttons

BarCodeMenu-ButtonNew.png
The New Button clears all entries on the form and prepares you to create a new bar code.  After clicking the New Button, enter a name for the bar code, choose a type, select the field that will provide the data, and click the Save Button.

BarCodeMenu-ButtonSave.png
The Save Button saves your bar code settings.  If you choose to overwrite an existing bar code, all templates that use that bar code will be updated with the settings you chose here.

BarCodeMenu-ButtonDelete.png
The Delete Button will delete the currently selected bar code.  You will be prompted to choose another bar code to replace the deleted bar code if it was used in any of your templates.

BarCodeMenu-ButtonAI.png
The AI Button will open the AI Menu.  AI (Application Identifiers) are codes and rules that are used to build multi-part bar codes. Currently, most facilities only encode one field (the NDC number without dashes) without using any AI, but the AI feature includes all the standard codes and rules that have been used by our customers.

The Help Button displays basic help information about the Bar Code Menu.  If you choose "More Information...." you will come to this page for full documentation.

Fields

 List:

The list of bar codes that have been created.  Any bar code on this list can be added to a template and then printed on your labels.

Name:

The name of the bar code.  The name can be any text that will be meaningful to you and your staff.

Type:

The font that will be used to encode the bar code.  Most commonly, facilities choose Code128_Auto for 1-D bar codes, or Datamatrix for 2-D bar codes.

NOTE - RSSLimited CCA (Build 4011 or higher) is a special composite bar code with an NDC number in the 1-D part and the expiration date and lot number in the 2-D part.  It was specifically designed for healthcare use, but it is rarely used by anyone except pharmaceutical manufacturers. If you use this type of bar code most scanners will need to be programmed to read them, and you must select the following settings here under Advanced:

  Data AI
Part 1     Your NDC Field (01) NDC or Product Number
Part 2 Your Exp Date Field      (17) Exp Date
Part 3 Your Lot Field (10) Lot or Batch Number

Data:

The field that will provide the data to be encoded in the bar code.  At print time, anything in the chosen field will be encoded.

Advanced:

By checking Advanced, you will be able to create multi-part bar codes that encode up to seven fields at one time, and that can include AI codes and rules.

Part 1-7 Data:

When creating a multi-part bar code, choose the fields you want to encode in the bar code, in order from Part 1 up to Part 7.

Part 1-7 AI:

If required for your multi-part bar code, choose an AI needed for each Part selected to be encoded.
